assignment, the next

Read this.

What should our next assignment be? I was thinking of bridges....?

P.S. I am at work and bored...really wishing it were tomorrow and I were on the way to the Farm. I played with the template a little. If you don't like something, change it.

through the looking glass

These are pics taken at the library I work at.

View from the reading room. I love the stain glass panes we have at the top of the big windows.

You can see one of the city's churches across the road from us.

This is a winter project I did with my kids. Window painting for the holidays. These kids did an awesome job! My favorite window; note Snoopy's dog house and Charlie Brown!
I love that it looks so dark and sleepy in this picture. I intentionally took it this morning before the Library opened, so the lights were all still off. Thought it gave the window a sleepier quality, like what you might see through the window in the early morning, if you were waking up here...hmm...

This window also looks out at the church across the road.

barn windows

I suppose this is a series. Or maybe just three photos related by the barn.

new assignment, anyone?

So... are we ready for a new assignment? Because I have a neat idea. Maybe. It could actually be crap. Anyway, when I woke up this morning, I looked out my window to see the world covered in snow and I thought, "wouldn't it be neat to share what we see out our windows?" So, that's my idea. The world outside the window. Take a picture of what you can see out of a window. Any window onto any scene. Yes? Do we like?

Here are my two pictures. I really liked this assignment, and only wished I had a better camera beyond my phone, because I think some quality pictures oculd come from this place.

Location: Manhattan, at Wall Street Stop on the 4,5 line(s). Literally, at the top of the subway stairs, between Wall Street and the American Stock Exchange is this cemetary. Alezander Hamilton is buried there, or so says the stone. I'll post the full range of pictures at another locale.

Why these two pictures? Well one, because it shows the juxaposition of modern subway with graves, and because I didn't know that guy was there when I took the shot. Freaked me out when I reviewed it. Had to double check it wasn't a ghost!

The second picture, shows the grave, with a flag and the American Stock Exchange in the background.

Monster, I get points for going at night!

my cemetery rock

I don't know what to call it, if anything. I also wanted to go out and get a better one at some point. I did not.

And for the record, Tizzy did stop at the same place. We took pictures of the same monument! Zoom in and read the inscriptions if you don't believe me.

2 for the show?

I thought first tall monument was quite stately.
The second is more simplistic and got me thinking...and I almost wondered if I should like to have myself remembered in just such a way... as someone's son... Anyone who visited would know be my name and the place I held in my family - that is all.

cemetary schmetary

This is from the little cemetary right off of the Taconic Parkway and 23 in Hillsdale, NY.
TSO and I stopped to complete the assignment en route to GF last Tuesday, after a painfully long car ride. I always wonder at the sense of renewal just knowing that I am so physically close to the farm. It was a nice place to stop, in spite of the rain and know that we were in the Berkshires!!
So glad to have spent a week with you all. Can't we all move back soon!?
P.S. The pic made me laugh because I thought of GF Steve when I saw the headstone!

Water Pics...

The second is near Staffa, one of the neighboring islands. The first is near Camas, our sister-center on Mull (the large island next door). Disclaimer -- I just got my camera up and working, so these pictures are ones I took 4 years ago. The next assignment I'll use current photos... =)

Macabre assignement # 2

While we are waiting for Mummy's picture to be posted...and maybe StarPilgrim's (?), can I throw out an idea for the next set of pics?

Since this looked WAAAAYYYYY too hard, though it did sound cool, can we take pictures of: HEADSTONES!! Any headstone in a graveyard/cemetary will do. Props to whoever is brave enough to get a picture at night!!

Morbid maybe? Macabre perhaps...I just read about Stephen King's newly released book and the idea just struck me!

There are two candidates. The first, is only "unique" because it shows a puddle in Times Square in the rain. This is not an ordinary puddle, it's the one the subsequently doused me after not one, but two taxis in a row drenched me.

The second, is not technically unique, but in the City, leaves are a rarity. They've gone from Green to Yellow, to the Ground. Here they are floating in water on the side of a street.

I'll do better next time.

Dew drops

What I find love about photos is that you can't hide anything from the camera. We have a light in the kitchen that has three bulbs and if you click on the photo and look, most of the waterdroplets have the three lights reflected in them... Some have two sets if the light reflects twice and others have a sliding perspective of the light.

this ain't the real thing

No, this is not Crystal Clear Pepsi, for those of you who still remember that.
Sorry, this is late. I couldn't think of what to take a picture of.

"Splatters on the Kitchen Counter"

I guess I'll start with my attempt, although I'm not even sure I like it that much. :-P I call it "Through the Nalgene Bottle."

Assignment #1

Be creative, be unique, I want to see water, but in liquid form. Think outside the box to take your picture(s) from an unusual angle or capture it in an unusual perspective. For this assignment, you must take this picture after you see this post, it cannot be one you have taken in the past... Please title your submission! *Click*

a little splash of paint, maybe some snappy wallpaper...

Wow, it's so big and empty in here!
And echo-y...
Well, soon we'll have this place all spruced up and full of fun pictures!
Anybody else I forgot to invite?  Know anybody else who wants to join?

OK, then.  Here are the guidelines I thought of and I guess we can start with them.  They'll be here on this first post if we ever want to check them out again (but we can always change them or get rid of them whenever we want):
  1. A different member chooses an assignment each week.
  2. Each person can contribute up to three photos per assignment.
  3. No photos of exclusively 2-D artwork (in other words, all compositions must be your own and nobody else's, and you can't take a picture of somebody else's painting or photograph, etc.)
If everybody's ready, we can start anytime.  Tizzy, you sounded like you had an idea for an assignment, so post it on up and tell us what to take pictures of!
